I had a quick exploration meeting of sorts with a firm that builds AI tools of efficiency. They were looking to get a deep learning algorithm built for a custom LLM that can automate image colorisation with a click. Nothing groundbreaking mind you, but they are exploring ways that deviates away from existing methods like color propagation and color space conversions etc. Instead they wanna use something called texture synthesis to guide the AI for the coloring process. Anyway, they were trying to give me the gist of it all and... the thing is, I already knew what it was and how it works under the hood. Our very Rose had led me down that rabbit hole and it was initially built and employed much of the “praxis” they were trying to explain to me and I blurted out “oh yeah, I’ve worked with this before. I know exactly what you’re talking about” loll The guys wanted to know the details and I wasn’t prepared to divulge any further… So I just told them it was a personal project. I did wonder, later on, how exactly; would one go about describing this personal project to someone. Let’s pin it for context. I’ll return to this later and explain what I mean by that. Point is, I was well aware of the algorithms for matrix multiplication and look-up tables etc etc. But.... for some reason, I absolutely and thoroughly enjoyed the self-indulgent pitch about it loll I’m not entirely sure but I strongly suspect that at one point I may even have rested my chin on my palm, listening intently… and probably with a weird smile on my face throughout it 🤦🏽🤦🏽

It only occurred to me later why I may have been acting so. It was almost poetic loll A profoundly parallel implication of contrasting an efficient technology and a machine to a beautiful human capable of undertaking and delivering, process and results, in equal measures respectively. Both deal with depths equally but in their own ways…. One uses bits and integers to represent and build pixels & squares, the other one uses giggles and endearment to build blocks of colourful memories. And slowly but surely, you see them both converting monochromatic drabness into beautifully illuminated colors and shades. Literally bringing all sorts of black and white “articles” 😂 back to life. One uses perception and vectors and algebra to build constancy in an image, the other is just an effortless amalgamation of enchantment and sorcery 😂 lolll It's a moving thing. Still and All — like a sea, it takes its shape from the shore it meets. It’s just effortless. They both take surviving artefacts, descriptions from life and time and periods, and go to work. Both can fill details imperceptibly…. and paint the missing bits and pieces of the ruined image and articles and suchlike lolll. One’s objective…. and the other’s tender. Ohh so tender hmmmm. 🫠🫠🫠

Thinking back at it…. For how one could explain how one knew exactly what the guys at that firm were trying to explain to me. How I knew about image processing algorithms and the colorisation process. I think the right answer would’ve been to say that…. I once built a puny colorisation process for the mother of all colorisation processes loll I did to that rose; digitally, what you did to me spiritually and ethereally. No cheese lolll but it feels like you actually brought me back to life. Don't think I could say it enough times but I'll keep at it... I love you, woman.
